Professor Prapa Kanagaratnam leads the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He won the British Cardiac Society Young Investigator Prize for his PhD on mechanism of activation in atrial fibrillation. This work extended into novel interventional procedures for atrial fibrillation including first-in-man robotic procedures, new methods for manipulating the autonomic nervous system and left atrial appendage occlusion for stroke prevention. He developed Ripple Mapping, a novel method for visualising cardiac activation, and is available for clinical use on the CARTO system. He also helped establish the original courses for accreditation in Arrhythmia Nursing in collaboration with the British Heart Foundation and London South Bank University.
