Paulus Kirchhof is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at University of Birmingham and Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences. Before moving to Birmingham, he trained in Germany and worked there as a senior interventional cardiologist in Münster, Germany. He researches translational mechanisms and management of cardiovascular diseases with a special interest in atrial fibrillation and cardiomyopathies from mechanisms to clinical research (h index >90). Professor Kirchhof runs a large atrial fibrillation service at SWBH NHS trust and the interdisciplinary Inherited Cardiac Conditions Clinic at UHB NHS trust. Professor Kirchhof is an enthusiastic teacher, regular supervisor for MD and PhD students, and a sought-after speaker. He contributes to guidelines, curricula, and textbooks.
