Richard Sutton born in Newport, UK, educated at King’s College, London University and King’s College Hospital Medical School graduated in 1964, trained in Medicine and Cardiology in London/North Carolina. He has been Consultant Cardiologist at Westminster, Chelsea & Westminster, Royal Brompton and St Mary’s Hospitals, London 1976-2011, became Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Imperial College, London 2003, took DSc London 1988, has published >435 peer-reviewed papers mostly on pacing & syncope and was made Emeritus Professor at Imperial in 2011.
He was Co-Founder (1976) & President of British Heart Rhythm Society (then BPEG) 1990-1995, and of European Working Group Cardiac Pacing 1998-2000 (now EHRA), Editor-in-Chief of Europace 1998-2006, now Founding Editor, President & Patron of STARS and President & Co-Founder of Cardiology section, Royal Society of Medicine (2006), London, He was Guest Professor of Cardiology, University of Lund, Sweden 2017-2023. He was Heart Rhythm Society Pioneer in Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology 2016 and received Lifetime Achievement Award at Heart Rhythm Congress 2007.
