Mark Squirrell

Position: Principal Cardiac Physiologist
Location: London UK

Mark Squirrell is the principal cardiac physiologist and clinical scientist at Guy's & St. Thomas' NHS Trust in London where he specialises in cardiac rhythm management. He works predominantly with complex device implantation and follow up. As head of department Mark has facilitated the development of extended roles for cardiac physiologists including rapid access clinics and physiologist lead ILR implantation. Mark also works at NHS England as a specialist advisor to the Chief Scientific Officer.

Professional

Mark is a former council member of the Society of Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST) and chairs the London HCS Workforce group at Health Education England. He is a member of the Chief Scientific Officers Leadership, Innovation and Advice group and part of the Shelford Scientists Group. Mark works with the National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS) and sits on the theme board and has undertaken accreditation visits on behalf of the School. He is also an examiner and exam writer for the OSFA exams and the British Heart Rhythm Society accreditation exam.

Research

Mark has a research interest in complex implantable and diagnostic devices and has published work on sudden unexplained death in epilepsy. As part of his master's programme he undertook research looking at change management within the NHS.
