After studying medicine, Dobromir Dobrev obtained his MD in 1994 and habilitated at the TU Dresden in 2008. From 2010 to 2012, he was Head of Experimental Cardiology at the University Hospital Mannheim, University of Heidelberg.  Since 2012, Dobromir Dobrev has been Director of the Institute of Pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Montréal Heart Institute, University of Montréal, Canada (since 2009) and at the Department of Molecular Physiology & Biophysics, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA (since 2015). His main research interests are the molecular pathophysiology of arrhythmias and the mechanisms of remodelling of ion channels and transporter proteins in the cardiovascular system.
