Dr Boon Lim

Boon Lim

Position: Consultant Cardiologist
Location: London UK

Dr P Boon Lim started his education in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and won a prestigious scholarship to read medicine at Cambridge University, where he graduated with a double first class honours degree at Gonville and Caius College. He completed his medical training at Cambridge University Medical School before rotating through the King’s College London, Oxford, and north west London rotations in medicine and cardiology.

Dr Lim completed his research at St Mary’s Hospital, where he explored the role of the autonomic nervous system in heart rhythm disturbances. This culminated in him winning the President’s Medal at the Royal Society of Medicine for his work. His interest in the autonomic nervous system led to him training in the field of syncope or ‘blackouts’ and he is now considered one of the leading national experts on syncope, organising the syncope sessions at the annual heart rhythm conference. He is the British Cardiovascular Society reviewer for the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines on syncope.

Dr Lim is an electrophysiologist, and one of the leading adopters of new technologies in mapping and ablation of arrhythmias. His work on these novel technologies has led to several important publications which describe the first-in-man usage of these technologies such as using the multi-electrode vest to map ventricular arrhythmias (Cardioinsight vest). He has a particular specialist interest in mapping and ablation of heart rhythm abnormalities, including atrial fibrillation (AF) and difficult-to-treat redo atrial tachycardia (AT) procedures. He also treats patients with other arrhythmias, including ventricular ectopy and ventricular tachycardias, supraventricular tachycardias (SVTs). He implants pacemaker and defibrillators.

Dr Lim is actively engaged in training and research and is looking at innovative ways to deliver healthcare and education, using state-of-the-art technology, including digital platform-enabled education for patients and healthcare professionals alike. He is developing a training platform to educate the next generation of trainees in electrophysiology and has a passion for teaching and education, upscaling this education to reach out to a wider audience of trainees.
