Position: BHF Arrhythmia Nurse

Shona has extensive clinical, managerial and service improvement experience within cardio-thoracic surgery, cardiology and arrhythmia management. In 2007, she was appointed a newly developed BHF Arrhythmia Nurse post which led to the development of advanced arrhythmia practitioner skills within tertiary care. Her current primary care role as Cardiovascular Specialist Nurse Practitioner sits within Affinity Care , Westcliffe Community Cardiology Service as well as the Westcliffe community anticoagulation service. She has a special interest in management of Atrial Fibrillation (AF) and was involved in the implementation and successful running of a Rapid Access Nurse Led Atrial Fibrillation clinic. She has been involved in improving uptake of OAC/DOAC locally and nationally by assisting with the development and implementation of primary care SPAF audit tools and participating in national educational events. She is the nurse representative on BHRS council and sits on a national steering group for implementation of AF180. She has authored and co-authored a number of publications in nursing journals and presents regularly at regional and national events on AF related topics.
