Position: Reader in Cardiovacular Sciencies

Larissa Fabritz is a Reader in Cardiovascular Sciences at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences, University of Birmingham, UK and honorary clinical consultant in the Department of Cardiology, University Hospitals Birmingham. Larissa attended Medical School in Heidelberg and Muenster, Germany, including study exchanges in Europe and America. She started her cardiovascular research career during a research year at Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA, where she performed electrophysiological experiments for her MD thesis. She received the dissertation prize of the Heart Centre Muenster for that work. After research and clinical training in paediatrics, medicine and cardiology, she obtained a personal research fellowship from DFG at University Hospital Muenster, Germany, before accepting a faculty position at University of Birmingham, UK, in 2011. Larissa has published >100 peer reviewed papers (h index 40, >4500 citations) in journals such as JCI, Circulation, or JACC, and leads a translational research group at the University of Birmingham with close collaborations in the UK, Europe and North America.  She performs translational research towards mechanism-based therapies of cardiomyopathies and arrhythmias with a focus on atrial fibrillation and prevention of sudden cardiac death. Larissa supervises interdisciplinary PhD, MD and Master students and she oversees Cardiology teaching during year 4 of the MBChB course at University of Birmingham. With partners of the CATCH ME Horizon 2020 consortium including the ESC, she has developed apps AFmanager and myAF for mobile devices.
