Position: Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Rowland graduated from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London and trained at The Royal Postgraduate Medical School and at the National Heart Hospital. In 1989 he was appointed to

the National Heart and Lung Institute and the Royal Brompton National Heart Hospital. In 1992 he moved to St. George's Hospital Medical School as Sugden Senior Lecturer and in 1996 was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at St George’s Hospital.

Dr Rowland has a particular interest in cardiac rhythm disorders, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, catheter ablation techniques and implantable devices for rhythm control.

He was Chairman of the Multicentre European Radiofrequency Survey, and is a Past Chairman of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Computers in Cardiology and a council member of the British Pacing & Electrophysiology Group. He has recently finished 6 years as the Clinical Director of Cardiology at St George’s Hospital. Dr Rowland was co-chair of the expert panel responsible for National Service Framework document on Cardiac Arrhythmias and Sudden Death and is a Member of the Department of Health Arrhythmia Board. In January 2008 he moved to become Consultant Cardiologist at University College Hospital, London and is a past President of HRUK which he undertook until March 2012.
