James graduated from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2010, and went on to train in Medicine and Cardiology in the North East of England. Specialising in multimodality cardiac imaging, he is accredited by the BSE in both Transthoracic and Transoesophageal Echo, by the EACVI in Cardiac MRI, and by SCCT in Cardiac CT. In 2022 he undertook an Advanced Imaging fellowship at St Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, a world-leading heart valve centre which pioneered CT planning for transcatheter valve interventions, as well as a high volume quaternary referral centre for adult congenital heart disease and transplantation. He has published on the use of AI in coronary CT and plaque imaging, and been an SCCT invited speaker on the subject of CT planning for TAVI and TMVR. His clinical interests are in the use of multimodality imaging in endocarditis and for guiding surgical and transcatheter valve intervention.
