Position: Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist
Location: London, UK

Dr Malcolm Finlay is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Barts Heart Centre, and holds honorary positions at UCL and QMUL. He is an expert in the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) with catheter ablation, and in the diagnosis and management of a full range of heart rhythm problems. He has a particular interest and expertise in the development of medical technologies, particularly those for minimally invasive catheter treatments of heart disease, and how these can best be used to help patients.

Dr Finlay read Medicine at Oxford University (BA 1998, BMBCh 2001). He was awarded his PhD in the mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmia in 2014 from University College London and appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre in the same year, with honorary positions at University College London and Queen Mary University of London.

His research interests include the translation of basic engineering and bioengineering principles to commercial realisation and patient benefit. He has founded three spin-out companies: Epicardio Ltd, Echopoint Medical Ltd and Rhythm AI Ltd; plus has raised over £5M in investment and grants over the past 3 years.

Dr Finlay’s awards and honours include the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians 2020, European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society Best Abstract award (Cardiac Sudden Death) 2013 and Barts Innovator of the Year award 2016.
