Jonathan Behar

Position: Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist
Location: London, UK

Jonathan Behar is a Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. He undertook cardiology training in north London followed by subspecialty training in arrhythmia management at the Barts Heart Centre. He initially worked as a Locum Consultant at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals for 2 years before taking up a permanent position at St Thomas' Hospital.

Jonathan undertook a PhD at St Thomas’ Hospital & King's College London, where he investigated the role of advanced cardiac imaging in guiding lead placement for heart failure patients undergoing cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). He was one of the co-inventors for the GUIDE CRT platform in collaboration with Siemens Healthcare, which integrates cardiac MRI and X-Ray images to guide pacing lead implantation. The platform is being formally tested in a multi-centre, international randomised clinical trial. This state-of-the-art work was shortlisted for the 'Inventor Award' at the European Heart Rhythm Association Congress in Vienna 2017 and was highly commended by the Secretary of State for Health as part of the NHS Heroes campaign.

Jonathan has a passion for addressing unmet clinical needs through translational and innovative solutions. He recently led a team which digitised and transformed the pre operative consent process for patients undergoing cardiac procedures; this project won the Royal College of Physicians Digital Award for Excellence in Patient Care 2021.
