Position: Cardiovascular Specialist Nurse Practitioner
Location: Bradford, UK

Cardiovascular Specialist Nurse Practitioner, Affinity Care/Westcliffe community cardiology, Shipley.

 

Shona’s career as a cardiovascular nurse is extensive; and has exposed her to a variety of clinical settings. She has been an arrhythmia nurse since 2007, formally in tertiary care, at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds. In 2014 she moved into primary care and currently works as a Cardiovascular Specialist Nurse Practitioner within a GP Alliance and Westcliffe community cardiology service. She is also a member of the community anticoagulation team.    She has a special interest in management of atrial fibrillation (AF) and was involved in the implementation and successful running of a rapid access nurse-led AF clinic in Leeds. She has been involved in improving uptake of OAC including direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOAC) locally and nationally by assisting with the development and implementation of stroke prevention and Atrial Fibrillation (SPAF) primary care audit tools and participating in national educational events.

 

She has authored and co-authored a number of publications in nursing journals and presents regularly at regional and national events on AF related topics.

 

She sat on the British Heart Rhythm Society Council as nurse representative for 4 years
