Position: Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist
Location: Dorset, UK

Kay Elliott is one of two Arrhythmia Nurse Specialists at Dorset County Hospital.  She relocated (from Gloucestershire) to Dorset in 2006 to set up the Arrhythmia nursing service.  Kay undertook a secondment with the British Heart Foundation (2012-2016) as a Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Clinical Development Coordinator.  This post involved setting up and delivering CVD education in Primary Care.  Upon her return to the Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist role in 2016 she set up nurse-led palpitation clinics in addition to the existing services.  Learning from running a palpitations clinic in secondary care will be the focus of the presentation for Heart Rhythm Congress.

Kay and her colleague manage the busy Arrhythmia Nursing Service that covers:

•             Atrial Fibrillation clinics (new cases of persistent atrial fibrillation) and follow-up after cardioversion

•             Nurse- Led DC Cardioversion

•             Pre-clerking and follow-up for patients requiring ablation

•             Pre-clerking and post procedure support for those needing Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators/Cardiac Re-Synchronisation Therapy with Defibrillator

•             Nursing input/review within the ICD clinics

•             Committee members for the ICD Support Group
